Japanese Freshwater Crab
The Japanese Freshwater Crab is a crab native to Japan, that can typically be found in mountain streams. The surface of their carapace is smooth and reddish-brown, however pale brown and blue types can also be found. The Japanese Freshwater Crab mainly lives under rocks in the upper and middle reaches of rivers. They cannot survive unless the water quality is clean to some extent. In addition to eating insects and earthworms as an omnivore, it also eats plants. It breeds in the summer and is thought to live for about 10 years.
